Most school admission forms in India are still PDFs that get downloaded, printed, filled by hand, scanned back, and emailed. In 2026 that's no longer acceptable — and the schools that fix it are seeing measurably better admission rates.
The conversion funnel
Every step in the admissions flow loses applicants. Industry averages we see:
- Inquiry to form open: 70%
- Form open to form submit: 35–55%
- Form submit to fee payment: 60–75%
- Fee payment to confirmed enrollment: 90%+
The biggest leak is form submission. Optimise that step alone and you can grow admissions 20–40% with no marketing change.
What "modern" looks like
- Mobile-first form — most parents fill admissions on a phone, not a desktop
- Save and resume — never make a parent finish a 30-field form in one go
- Auto-validation — phone, Aadhaar, email checked inline before submit
- Document upload, not download — accept photos of certificates from the camera
- Inline payment — application fee charged right at submit, via UPI
- Tracking link — parent gets a status URL to check application progress
What schools should track
Most schools have no idea where their applicants drop off. Schoolo's admissions module logs every step (open / start / submit / pay), so you can see exactly where the 30% who never finish are giving up — and fix it.
Bulk enrollment
For schools running campaigns or moving in cohorts (e.g. transfers from a feeder school), CSV bulk import + auto-fee-assignment cuts a 3-day data entry job to 30 minutes.
Why mobile-first isn't optional anymore
Across the schools we work with, over 70% of admission form starts happen on a phone, usually while a parent is doing something else — commuting, waiting at a clinic, between work tasks. A form designed and tested primarily on desktop, then squeezed onto mobile, is where most of that 35–55% form-completion drop happens: tiny tap targets, dropdown menus that are painful on a small screen, and file uploads that assume a desktop file picker.
A real before/after
One school we onboarded had a 9-page PDF admission form requiring in-person submission. After moving to a mobile-first digital flow with save-and-resume, form completion rose from 41% to 68% in the same admissions cycle the following year, with no change in marketing spend or application volume at the top of the funnel.
Handling the “my child doesn’t have Aadhaar yet” case
Not every applicant has full documentation ready at inquiry stage. A modern flow allows partial submission — the family can pay the application fee and reserve a spot in the queue, with document upload marked as a follow-up step rather than a hard blocker that loses the applicant entirely.
Admissions is where you first collect a family's personal data — see our plain-English breakdown of India's DPDP Act and what it means for how you handle it.
